Google Business Profile
not showing up?

Your business exists, customers search for it, and Google acts like you've never heard of it. There are exactly five reasons a profile goes invisible — and each has a different fix. Work through them in order before assuming the worst.

5
Possible causes

Unverified, suspended, filtered, outranked — or you're searching wrong.

Verification problems and suspensions after edits.

01

Rule out the false alarms

Before diagnosing a problem, confirm there is one. Search from a phone with location services on, not your office desktop — results change by where Google thinks you are. Search your service plus city ("house cleaning Fruit Cove"), not just your business name. And check Google Maps directly, not only Search.

Also know this: you will rarely see yourself in the map pack from your own location if you haven't built prominence yet. Being "listed" and "ranking" are different things. A profile can be perfectly healthy and still buried.

The 30-second test

Search your exact business name in Google Maps. Found it? Your profile is live — your issue is ranking, not visibility. Skip to section four.

02

Cause one: the profile isn't verified

An unverified profile is effectively invisible. Verification used to mean a postcard; now it's usually video, phone, or email — and it can silently lapse or fail. Log into your profile manager and look for a verification banner or a "your profile is not visible" notice.

If verification is pending or failed, complete it carefully: show your storefront signage, vehicle branding, or tools of the trade in a video verification, and make sure every detail matches your real-world paperwork exactly. Mismatched business names and addresses are the top reason verifications stall.

03

Cause two: the profile is suspended

Suspensions come in two flavors. A soft suspension: the profile still shows publicly, but you can't manage it. A hard suspension: it vanishes from Search and Maps entirely. Common triggers are keyword-stuffed business names, a residential address shown publicly for a storefront category, a virtual office, multiple listings for one business, or a big batch of edits made at once.

  • Fix the actual violation first — usually the business name or address display
  • Gather proof: business license, utility bill, signage photos
  • Submit the reinstatement form once, with evidence attached
  • Don't create a new profile — that turns one problem into two
  • Expect days to weeks for a decision; chasing with repeat forms resets the clock
04

Cause three: you're being filtered or outranked

If your profile is live and verified, the remaining causes are competitive. Google filters near-duplicate businesses at the same address — common in office buildings full of similar practices. And in a dense Jacksonville category, twenty verified profiles compete for three map spots; the rest are technically "showing up" on page two of the map results, which is the same as invisible.

This is a ranking problem, not a visibility problem: complete categories, steady reviews, active posts, and a website that backs up your services. Our map pack guide covers the full playbook.

05

When to stop guessing

Verification loops and suspensions have a real cost: every week invisible is a week of calls going to competitors. If you've been through the steps above and the profile still isn't right, a structured review usually finds the issue in one pass — the wrong category, a duplicate listing from years ago, a name that doesn't match your registration.

That diagnosis is exactly what our Google Business Profile Blueprint is for: a complete audit of the profile, the violations or gaps, and a written fix list. And if a competitor reported you into a suspension — it happens — our fake-reviews guide covers that fight.

Straight answers

Common questions.

How long does reinstatement take after a suspension?

Anywhere from a few days to several weeks. A clean first submission with strong evidence (license, utility bill, signage photos) is the fastest path. Repeated or sloppy appeals slow everything down.

Can I just make a new profile instead of fixing the old one?

Almost never the right move. Duplicate profiles violate Google's guidelines, split your reviews, and often get both listings suspended. Fix the original — it has your history and reviews attached.

Why did my profile disappear right after I edited it?

Large or sensitive edits — name, category, address — can trigger automatic review or suspension. This is normal, annoying, and usually fixable by re-verifying. Make profile changes one at a time, and never touch the business name casually.

I work from home. Can I still show up on Maps?

Yes — as a service-area business. Hide your home address, set the areas you serve, and you can rank across them. Showing a residential address publicly is a common suspension trigger, so set it correctly from the start.
